– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on Japan to promote financial support and new-generation official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam to implement strategic infrastructure projects with transformative potential like the North - South high-speed railway, nuclear power, and urban rail systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

During a reception for visiting Japanese Minister of Finance Kato Katsunobu in Hanoi on January 8, the Government leader highlighted financial cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral relations. He commended Japan's effective financial support for large-scale infrastructure projects with significant ripple effect in Vietnam, such as Hanoi’s Nhat Tan Bridge and Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport, and HCM City’s Metro Line 1, which began commercial operations in December 2024. Addressing a regular Government press briefing on January 8, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen noted that on January 4, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially stated that the spread of respiratory infections in the country is a common seasonal occurrence peaking in winter and not an unusual health event. The HMPV virus spreads through respiratory droplets and exhibits symptoms similar to the common cold (fever, cough, and nasal congestion). It can lead to complications like pneumonia and bronchitis, with higher risks for children under five, the elderly, and immunocompromized individuals. Read full story

– The Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Centre (VCPMC) collected over 393 billion VND (15.48 million USD) in music copyright royalties last year, up 14.2% year-on-year, revealed the centre’s annual review conference held in Hanoi on January 8.

Of the total amount, royalties from digital platforms, including websites and music applications, were more than 305 billion, or 78%. The VCPMC distributed nearly 257 billion VND to copyright holders in 2024. An additional 94 billion VND in royalties for Q4/2024 is expected to be paid to authors and rights holders in January 2025.
