More pedestrian streets open in Hanoi Old Quarter

Hanoi on October 3 launched six more walking streets to serve tourists’ exploration of its Old Quarter.
The Hoan Kiem District’s People Committee on October 3 launched six morewalking streets to serve tourists’ exploration of Hanoi Old Quarter onFriday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

The streetsare Hang Buom, Ma May, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ta Hien and Dao DuyTu streets, which are connected to the existing Hang Dao-Dong Xuanpedestrian road.

The six-street area is famous formany historical relics dating back to the 18 th -19 th century such asthe temples of Bach Ma, Quan De and Huong Tuong together with houses ofold architecture typical of Hanoi.

Along thestreets, performances of traditional music “hat xam” (minstrel songs),“chau van” (spiritual singing), and “ca tru” (ceremonial singing) aswell as jazz will be organised.

Last month, the300m long Hang Buom Street was also made a cuisine street, servingHanoi traditional confectionery and beverage and some European andAsian dishes to visitors to the night market along the Hang Dao- DongXuan route.

Hanoi Old Quarter was listedamong the best 95 attractions in the capital in 2014 by the US ’spremier travel website TripAdvisor.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
