More efforts urged to deal with flood consequences in central, southern regions

Hanoi (VNA) - The Standing Office of the Central SteeringCommittee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on September 30 requestedcentral, Central Highlands and southern provinces and cities to continue carryingout measures to address consequences caused by recent heavy rains and flooding, and closelymonitor water flows into reservoirs.

Localities were asked to assign personnel on duty around theclock, regularly report to the Standing Office of the Central SteeringCommittee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the Office of the NationalCommittee for Incident and Disaster Response and Search and Rescue when anyincident occurs.

On September 29 afternoon, heavy downpours made a new stonewall collapse, killing two and injuring two others in Da Latcity of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

The steering committee advised locals to be highly vigilant, carefullyobserve strange geological phenomena, and quickly move away from areas whereflash floods may occur.

Localities in flood-affected areas should inspectunsafe houses in mountainous areas and residential areas along rivers andstreams, and areas at risk of flooding and landslides, and get plans ready to evacuate residents in high-risk areas to safe places./.
