Hanoi (VNA) – Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith led a high-leveldelegation to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai at theVietnamese Embassy in Laos in Vientiane on March 20.
The delegation included Silavong Khutphaythoun, Secretary and Governor of theVientiane capital; Bounpon Bouttanavong, Vice Chairman of the Lao NationalAssembly; Saleumsay Kommasith, Foreign Minister, among others.
In the funeral book, the Lao PM expressed his deep sorrow at the passing away ofPrime Minister Phan Van Khai, who made significant contributions to national protectionand construction as well as strengthening the Vietnam-Laos special friendshipand comprehensive cooperation.
Representatives from the Lao Foreign Ministry, the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee,and Vietnamese representative offices and Vietnamese people in Laos also cameto the embassy to pay tribute to the late Prime Minister.
The same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan held a memorial service forformer Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and placed funeral books that will remainuntil March 22.
Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong and staff of the embassy, andrepresentatives from Vietnamese representative offices in Japan solemnlyoffered incense to the former Government leader.
After observing a minute of silence in memory of the deceased, the Ambassadorreviewed PM Khai’s contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party andthe nation, as well as the country’s Renewal and nation-building cause.

Ceremonies to pay tribute to late PM Phan Van Khai took place at the International Convention Centre in Hanoi and the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City on March 20.
The funeral for former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai who passed away in Ho Chi Minh City on March 17 started at 8am on March 20 at the city’s Thong Nhat Hall.
Addressing the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting a large number of Vietnamese living and working in the RoK, acknowledging and appreciating their efforts in contributing to the growing Vietnam–RoK partnership.
He also welcomed the “Vietnam Private Sector Panorama” as a platform for dialogue, awareness-raising, and inspiring a wealth-creation movement, emphasising that it must deliver tangible results.
