Mekong River nations discuss countering drug smuggling

A conference between high-ranking officials of nations along the Mekong River was held in Hanoi on May 19 to discuss cooperation in combating drug smuggling.

Joint efforts to combat drugtrafficking between Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnamand the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime have made majorcontributions to the fight against drug crimes in the region over thepast 20 years.

The conference was considered animportant platform to exchange information and experience betweenregional countries on the issue and uncover solutions for bilateral andmultilateral efforts.

The event was organised by theMinistry of Public Security and the National Committee for AIDS, Drugand Prostitution Prevention and Control.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
