Medical Film Days begin in Hanoi

The Ministry of Health has launched the 2019 Vietnam Medical Film Days in Hanoi as part of activities to celebrate the 64th Vietnam Physician Day on February 27.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Health has launched the 2019 VietnamMedical Film Days in Hanoi as part of activities to celebrate the 64th Vietnam PhysicianDay on February 27.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tienhighlighted health issues as an attractive and endless topic for artists.

“On behalf of the health sector, I have deeply appreciated efforts ofdocumentary film artists. They have created extremely precious image annals onoperation history of the Vietnamese health sector that helps doctors and healthworkers understand history and continue to inherit and promote the traditionsand achievements of previous generations,” said Tien.

During the three-day event, 10 films will beshown at the health ministry, the Hanoi Medical University, the Public HealthUniversity, and the Studio for Document and Scientific Films in Hanoi.

The films document the health sector from 1970 to date. They also honourdoctors and health workers who silently sacrificed their lives for thecountry’s health care and protection.

A highlight of the event is The 30-year Reunion, a film directed byPeople’s Artist Nguyen Thuoc about the life of Nguyen Thi Kim Lai, the ‘smallguerrilla’ character in the picture of a female Vietnamese soldier holding agun to oppose downed a American pilot in the resistance war against America.

After the war, Lai was a nurse at the Ha Tinh Traditional Medicine Hospital.She is the embodiment of the spirit of courage in war but full of humanity,promoting medical ethics in peacetime.

On the sidelines of the event, a photo exhibition will showcase images andcontents of 10 outstanding films at the event.-VNA

Health sector calls on people to donate blood

During the peak months of July and August 2025, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) needs at least 90,000 units of blood to supply 180 hospitals in the northern region. However, despite continuous efforts, the reserve blood is still short of 30,000 units.
