Measures sought for sustainable preservation of Trang An complex

Measures and action plans to sustainably preserve anduphold values of the Trang AnLandscape Complex in the northern province of Ninh Binh was the main topic of aworkshop held at Bai Dinh pagoda in the locality on April 20.

In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee DinhChung Phung underlined the province’s efforts in the work, saying that the localauthorities have devised many programmes, plans and strategies to promote the preservationof the Complex.

However, he noted that the complex is facing many challenges as well as impactsfrom changes in the natural and social environment.

The workshop aims to collect opinions from domestic and foreign experts,managers and scientists on action plans to improve the efficiency of thepreservation in combination with tourism development, Phung said.

The official expressed his hope that reports delivered at the workshop willhelp Ninh Binh roll out orientations in managing and upholding values of the TrangAn Landscape Complex in the future.

Participant focused discussions on responsible tourism development, relationshipbetween conservation and sustainable development in world heritage areas, preservationand orientations to promote cultural tourism development, tourism exploitation andmanagement, and protection of world heritages at tourist sites.

They highlighted active results in preserving, managing and promoting the TrangAn Complex’s values in recent years, which have contributed to attracting more visitorsto Ninh Binh.

The participants proposed ways to better state management of the complex, andstressed the need to review policies and legal documents on heritage protectionand make adjustments to them. It is necessary to promote campaigns to raisepublic awareness of the importance of protecting the heritage, and benefits it broughtin, they said.

The Trang An complex is a World Natural Heritageand includes Tam Coc-Bich Dong - a series of karst caves and mountain pagodas,the ancient and new Bai Dinh pagoda and the Hoa Lu ancient capital. The area,dotted with forest, lime mountains, rivers, lakes and dams, covers 12,252hectares.

Ninh Binh province welcomed over 7 million holidaymakers in 2017, up 8 percentagainst 2016, with over 6 million of whom visited the Trang An Landscape Complex.-VNA
