Lithuanian PM expresses wish to enhance ties with Vietnam

Prime Minister of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis has expressed his wish to enhance people-to-people and cultural exchange, tourism and education-training cooperation with Vietnam.

Vilnius (VNA) – Prime Minister of Lithuania SauliusSkvernelis expressed his wish to enhance people-to-people and culturalexchange, tourism and education-training cooperation with Vietnam during aworking session with Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh in Vilnius city onOctober 23.

Skvernelis hailed the Vietnamese Vice President’s visit onthe occasion of the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

He said the Lithuanian government highly values ties withVietnam and wishes to promote joint work in fields of shared concern such asfood processing, medical equipment, chemicals, information technology,renewable and green energies.

Thinh, who is in Lithuania from October 22-24, spoke highlyof positive progresses in bilateral friendship, especially ineconomy-trade-investment. She suggested working closely together to boost tradepromotion and seek opportunities in each other’s market.

She proposed that the Lithuanian government offer allpossible support to Vietnamese businesses to bring agro-forestry-fisheries, andapparel to Lithuania and Baltic countries.

Vietnam is willing to open the market and help Lithuaniaaccess ASEAN markets, she said.

Both sides agreed to turn economic-trade-investment tiesinto a priority in bilateral partnership, promptly negotiate and sign severalframework agreements to create a legal framework for collaboration whileoffering mutual support at multilateral cooperation mechanisms such as theUnited Nations, the UNESCO and the Asia-Europe Meeting.

At the round-table business conference held on the same day,Deputy Foreign Minister of Lithuania Albinas Zananavicius affirmed that thevisit makes important contributions to pushing forwardeconomic-trade-investment ties between the two nations, especially at a timewhen the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement is going to be signed andratified.

Zananavicius took the occasion to brief guests aboutLithuania’s competitive strengths in information and food technology, woodprocessing.

Lithuanian firms expressed their interest in doing businessin Vietnam and wished to receive legal guidance to form joint ventures.

Leaders of Vietnamese ministries and agencies affirmed thatthe Vietnamese government is ready to create favourable conditions for Lithuanianenterprises in the country.

On the occasion, Vice President Thinh met staff of the Vietnameseembassy in Poland and Lithuania and Vietnamese nationals in the host country.-VNA
