Leipzig of Germany establishes partnership with HCM City
The council of Leigzig city in Germany’s Sachsen state on July 21 approved the establishment of a partnership with Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, lifting their bilateral friendship to a new level.

Berlin (VNA) – The council of Leigzigcity in Germany’s Sachsen state on July 21 approved the establishment of apartnership with Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, lifting their bilateral friendshipto a new level.
At the council’s meeting, Leipzigmayor Burkhard Jung reviewed the cooperation between the two cities sincethe two sides signed an MoU on establishing friendly ties in 2015.
At the end of 2018, Leipzigopened a representative office in Vietnam. It is so far the only German citywith a rep. office in Vietnam.
The German city has worked with Vietnam and HCMCity in particularly in many cooperative projects in a wide range of areas,from economics, culture, health care, education-training to energy, theenvironment and rare animal conservation, the mayor said.
He wenton to say that the two sides have supported each other in the COVID-19 crisis through practical actions.
Addressing the council’s meeting, VietnameseAmbassador to Germany Nguyen Minh Vu said Leipzig’s decision to set up apartnership with HCM City marks a new step forward not only in the relationshipbetween the two cities but also in the friendly ties between Vietnam andGermany, especially during a year when the two countries celebrate the 10th year of their strategic partnership.
Recalling the traditional ties between Leipzigand Vietnam, the ambassador thanked the city authorities for creatingfavourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the city to integrateinto the host society and contribute to the ties between the two countries.
Earlier the same time, Ambassador Vu andDefence Attache Nguyen Tuan Minh had a working session with the UniversityHospital Leipzig on the cooperation between the German hospital and Vietnam’sMilitary Hospital 175.
As part of his working trip, the ambassadoralso called at the Leipzig zoo to discuss the joint work between the zoo andVietnamese partners, including the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre in CucPhuong National Park and a project to preserve primates in Cat Ba island./.
Germany’s Großmann Ingenieur Consult GmbH (GICON®) and the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) have identified cooperation sectors and forms, covering technologies, under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on March 29.
