Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang on November 20 sent greeting flowers to twoveteran teachers, Prof. Vu Khieu and pianist Thai Thi Lien, on the occasion ofthe Vietnamese Teachers’ Day.
Prof. Vu Khieu, who ismore than 100 years old, is a well-known scholar specialised in Vietnameseculture. During the anti-French resistant war, he served as director of the CultureDepartment of Zone 10 in Viet Bac and Tay Bac (northern mountainous region).
After Hanoi Liberationin 1954, Khieu held many important positions, including Deputy GeneralSecretary of the Vietnam News Agency.
He was presented withthe Ho Chi Minh Award in 1996.
Thai Thi Lien, 94, isone of the first piano teachers of Vietnam and seven founding teachers of theVietnam School of Music, which is now the Vietnam Academy of Music (VAM). Sheworked as head of the Piano Faculty of the academy until 1980.
The same day, PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and extended greetings to some outstandingteachers who have made great contributions to the development of the educationand training sector of Vietnam.
Visiting pianist ThaiThi Lien, PM Phuc thanked the artist for training many famous artists forVietnam, including her two talented offspring, renowned pianists Dang Thai Sonand Tran Thu Ha who is former director of the VAM.
During a visit towriter Vu Tu Nam who has been awarded with the State Award of Literature andArt, the Government leader hailed Nam’s effort in nurturing many writers forVietnam and setting a good example for younger generations.
Meeting Sculptor TaQuang Bao, another owner of the State Award of Literature and Art, the OM highlightedsome significant sculptures by Vietnamese artists, including the statue of ChuVan An, a well-known Confucian teacher of Vietnam.
PM Phuc also affirmedthat the Government is seeking suitable policies to support teachers andartists to create more favourable conditions for them to make morecontributions to the development of the country’s education-training,literature and art.-VNA

A 21-year-old Indian tourist was successfully resuscitated and treated by doctors at Hoan My Da Nang Hospital after a near-drowning incident left him in critical condition. After three days of intensive care, the man was discharged from the hospital and has since returned to India.
