Kien Giang forum discusses safe, healthy living environment for children

Kien Giang (VNA) –The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang’s Department of Labour, Invalids andSocial Affairs in coordination with the provincial Youth Union held a forumwith the theme "Children participate in building a safe, friendly andhealthy living environment for children" on June 26 in the locality.
The event drew the participation of 119 children delegates representing more than385,000 of their friends in the province.
Speaking at the forum, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People'sCommittee Nguyen Luu Trung said that over the past years, along with promotingsocio-economic development, maintaining political stability and social orderand safety, local Party Committees, authorities, families, schools and societyhave strived to create favourable conditions for children to be cared for, study and enjoy a healthy, safe and friendly environment. Due attention has beenpaid to children with difficult circumstances, helping fully realisechildren's rights, especially the one to take part in children's affairs, hesaid.
Through the forum, childrencan contribute ideas and voice their aspirations on issues related to them, theofficial said, adding that provincial leaders will continue to direct agenciesto do more favourable for the children in the coming time.
Participants at the forumraised opinions on issues such as solutions to improve the effectiveness of dissemination and educationon the Law on Children as well as detect and handle cases related to child abuse.Ways to raise children's awareness and self-protection skills and how to helpkids access the Internet properly were also touched upon.
Representatives of provincialleaders answered questions about solutions to settle child labour; the benefits andharms of social networks as well as how to use smartphones properly.
