Dien Bien (VNA) – Experts from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on April 8 worked with representatives from the People’s Committee of the northwest province of Dien Bien on a draft of the northwest region’s sustainable forest de💝velopment project.

JICA experts spoke about financial data collected during surveys in the districts of Tuan Giao, Muong Ang, Muong Cha, Dien Bien and Dien Bien Dong.
They suggested the local authorities provide more information related to other issues, saying that the project will be carried out in a number of districts, which can meet set requirements. Dien Bien is interested in the project because it is likely to contribute to sustainable development of the locality, said Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lo Van Tien, stressing that the local authorities will make necessary preparations to implement the project as soon as possible. The sustainable forest development project in the northwest (JICA 3) is the follow-up of the natural resources sustainable management project launched by JICA in August last year to support the northwest provinces of Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau and Hoa Binh.
It aims to sustainably develop, manage, and protect forests, thus reducing poverty, improving livelihoods of locals, protecting the environment and enhancing local authorities’ capacities in sustainably management. The project expects to be funded by a 53.3 million loan from JICA. However, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed to increase the loan to 70 million USD. When negotiations for the loan and preparations are complete, the project will run from 2017 to 2027.-VNA
