Japanese media highlight Vietnam’s role in hosting DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit

A number of Japanese newspapers ran articles featuring Vietnam’s role and status as the host of the second summit between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US in Hanoi, as well as the relations between Vietnam and the US and DPRK.

Hanoi (VNA) –
A number of Japanese newspapers ran articles featuring Vietnam’srole and status as the host of the  secondsummit between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US in Hanoi,as well as the relations between Vietnam and the US and DPRK.

In theircoverage, both Nikkei Asian Review and Japan Today websites quoted US PresidentDonald Trump as saying on his Twitter: "Vietnam is thriving like fewplaces on earth. North Korea would be the same, and very quickly, if it woulddenuclearize."

Meanwhile, inits highlight column, Japanese Sankei website said that with its unbiased stand,the hosting of the summit by Vietnam has affirmed that the country wishes tocontribute to peace and stability of the world.

Sankei’s articlealso underlined Vietnam’s effort to strengthen relations with its neighbours aswell as developed countries, including the US and Japan, aiming to contributeto the national economic development and security.

Noting thatVietnam issued a special stamp set welcoming the DPRK–USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam,the newspaper said it depicts Vietnam’s national flag and the hand-shakingbetween the leaders of the US and the DPRK with the image of Khue Van Cac (thePavillion of Constellation of Literature) on the background. The stamp is usedin the postal network until December, 2020.

Referring to theVietnam – US relations, Sankei said Vietnam’s two low-cost carriers VietJet andBamboo airways had inked deals to buy 110 US’s Boeing airplanes, worth 15billion USD. The newspaper noted that US President Trump gave positive commentson Vietnam after witnessing the signing of the deals.

At the sametime, Japan’s broadcasting company NHK also featured Vietnam’s VietJet andBamboo airways buying US’s Boeing airplanes. The NHK said Vietnamese Party andState leader Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Donald Trump had talks ahead ofthe summit, in which the latter mentioned Vietnamese enterprises signed severaldeals to buy US’s airplanes and machines. It noted the US leader expressed his delightat the deals between Vietnam and US’s businesses.

According NHK,US President Trump spoke highly of Vietnam’s role in hosting the second DPRK-USSummit and expressed his thanks to Vietnam’s two airways for buying a largenumber of US’s airplanes.

Meanwhile, theJapanese Nikkei newspaper described the hosting of the summit as a good chancefor Vietnam to promote its tourism as the event drew over 3,000 foreignjournalists.

Regarding theVietnam – DPRK relations, Nikkei said DPRK leader Kim was following his late grandfatherKim Il-sung who made visits to Vietnam in 1958 and 1964.
