Japan hands over solar system to HCM City school

A solar power system was handed over to Tan Nhut secondary school in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City on April 23, becoming the first among 10 local schools benefiting from an initiative funded by Japan’s AEON Environmental Foundation.

Under the 500,000 USD scheme,solar panels will be installed right in school campuses, helping themsave 40 percent on their monthly electricity bills.

Speakingof the project’s benefits, Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Le Manh Ha said students will become environmentally-consciousand learn to recycle items and use renewable energy.

On theoccasion, the foundation and the municipal Department of Education andTraining signed an agreement to install the system in more localschools.

Since 2009, the foundation has presented this systemto 15 Japanese schools. In the Association of Southeast Asia Nations(ASEAN), Malaysia has benefitted most from the scheme, followed byVietnam.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
