President Truong Tan Sang has asked Police Investigation Agency underthe Ministry of Public Security to pay special attention to increasingthe capacity of its personnel and improving legal system in the field.

Working with leaders of the agency on July 30 inHanoi on the results of its judicial reform in the first half of thisyear, he noted that the police force is facing increasing challengesposed by both domestic and world situation.

Therefore, investigation police should strengthen the coordination withother agencies and work more closely with other state departments at alllevels to prevent and combat crimes, he said.

President Sang also asked the force to exert more efforts to avoidmissing out criminals as well as using corporal punishment during theirinvestigation process.

He also directed the agency to boost cooperation with international police to settle trans-national crimes.

According to a report at the meeting, in the first six months of 2014,the investigation agency handled 52,939 cases involving 83,129suspects, and prosecuted 35,383 cases.

Cyber and drug-related crimes are emerging complicatedly with increasing number of trans-national rings, said the report.

Leaders of the agency also pointed to some difficulties that the forceis facing, including the inefficient legal framework for new kinds ofcrimes, especially cyber crime, coupled with a limitation in thecoordination with other agencies in investing and extraditing cases andcriminals consisting of foreign factors.

In the restof the year, the agency will continue enhancing the quality ofinvestigations and enforcement actions, while speeding up theinvestigation against economic malpractice and corruption cases, theysaid.

Meanwhile, the force will also work to improvelegal framework, enabling the smoother operation of crimeinvestigation, they added.-VNA
