Int’l Day for Biodiversity to be observed in Quang Ninh

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province will coordinate in holding a ceremony to mark International Day for Biological Diversity on May 19.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment and the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee will coordinate inorganising a ceremony to mark International Day for Biological Diversity (May22) in the northern locality on May 19.

Within the framework of the event, a ceremony to grant theASEAN Heritage Park title to Bai Tu Long National Park and a seminar onbiodiversity and sustainable tourism were held as well.

In the other hand, the ministry will cooperate with theVietnamese Women’s Union and the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial People’s Committeeto hold an event to launch the “Action Month for Environment” on June 4 as aneffort to respond to World Environment Day (June 5).

Also in early June, a series of activities will be held inthe Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau in response to the Vietnamese Sea andIsland Week.

To respond to International Day for Biological Diversity andWorld Environment Day, the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Associations,in collaboration with the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature andEnvironment, organised a symposium themed “Friendly to capital environment” onMay 9.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater🐻 quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

 Vie🌱tnam ramps up plas൩tic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

Hundreds of trees planted in Cuc Phuong National Park as paꦍrt of Forestival

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
