Hanoi (VNA) – TheParty Central Committee’s Economic Commission and relevant agenciesco-organised a high-level discussion within the framework of the Industry 4.0Summit 2019 in Hanoi on October 3.

Speaking at the event, themed “Vietnam’spolicy and action programme to proactively join the fourth IndustrialRevolution”, head of the commission Nguyen Van Binh said the Vietnamese Partyand State have directed relevant agencies and sectors to step up theapplication and development of technologies and innovation.

However, Binh stressed that thecountry’s proactive participation in the fourth Industrial Revolution remainslow.

He pointed out a series ofshortcomings such as unsynchronised institutions for the digital economy,sharing economy, and innovation activities, while the quality and structure of humanresources have yet to meet requirements, and the digital economy remains small.

According to the official, inthat context, the Politburo had assigned the Party Central Committee’s EconomicCommission to build a project on policy to proactively joining the fourthIndustrial Revolution. Based on the outcomes of the project, the Politburo onSeptember 27 issued Resolution 52 mapping out a number of guidelines and policieson participating in the fourth Industrial Revolution.

Binh also emphasized theimportance to bring the resolution into the life to help Vietnam catch up withthe region and the world in the fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Industry 4.0 Summit 2019 istaking place in Hanoi on October 2 and 3 with the participation of about 1,500domestic and international delegates. The summit aims to explain key polices ofthe Party and State on Vietnam’s participation in the fourth IndustrialRevolution, pool domestic and foreign experts’ recommendations for suchengagement, and connect international investors in the field with theVietnamese business community.

It features a high-leveldiscussion, five symposiums, an exhibition on modern technologies, and abusiness matching event.

Some 85 percent of industrialenterprises in Vietnam still lag behind the revolution, and only 13 percent areat the beginner level, according to Nguyen Duc Thanh, Director of the VietnamInstitute for Economic and Policy Research.

In a draft national digitaltransformation plan, Vietnam targets emerging as one of the top four countriesin ASEAN in terms of digitalisation by 2025 with 80,000 digital technologycompanies./.
