Jakarta (VNA) – With a strategy of adaptation,reform, and cooperation, Indonesia's tourism industry is recoveringstrongly from the COVID-19 pandemic and has become one of the country’s growth drivers.
The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy hasadjusted the tourism development policy and strategy to quickly adapt to newtourism trends. Steps to be taken include recovering and expanding markets,diversifying products and services, improving manpower quality, recoveringdestinations and infrastructure, and enhancing businesses’ adaptability andcompetitiveness.
Talking to the Vietnam News Agency,Minister Sandiaga Uno said in the post-pandemic period, the tourismsector of Indonesia will focus on quality and sustainability and adapt to newtourism trends.
Before the pandemic, visitors to the country were mainly aged20 - 60, travelled with their families or in groups, and sought popularentertainment places with affordable costs. At present, most of domestic andforeign tourists are youngsters travelling alone or in small groups, andchoosing clean and safe destinations for their holidays.
Given this, tourism managers ofIndonesia have changed their strategy which prioritises promoting naturalattractions, pays more attention to health aspects, and reduces in-personcontact by digitalising advertising, sale, and payment, the official said.
Tourismdevelopment will also focus more on environmental welfare, the demonstration ofthe pride in local culture, society, and traditional knowledge, as well as thebalance between mass and quality tourism.
Besides,one of Indonesia’s efforts to boost post-COVID tourism development is to grant12,000 CHSE (Clean, Health, Safety, and Environment) certificates to localtravel businesses, he noted, adding that the tourism sector must also meethygiene, health, and environmental sustainability requirements.
Thanksto the COVID-19 containment and the above-mentioned efforts, Indonesia welcomednearly 5.5 million international tourist arrivals in 2022, surging 251.28% yearon year and surpassing the target of 3.6 million. Itlooks to attract 3.5 - 7.4 million foreign tourists in 2023./.
