Jakarta, December 10 (VNA) – Indonesia’s creative economy could contribute up to 20 percent to the global economy, according toMinister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno.
The country’s creative economy has been ranked third inthe world in terms of its contribution to the national gross domestic product(GDP). The United States is currently ranked first with its Hollywood film industry,followed by the Republic of Korea with its K-Pop industry.
According to Minister Uno, high quality human resources (HR) in the tourism andcreative economy sectors are needed to respond to the challenges ahead. To pushup this potential, it is crucial to digitise the creative economy, he said.
Although between 70-75 percent of the creative economy is still supported bythe culinary, handicraft and fashion industries, in the future, it is necessaryto industrialise the creative economy in other areas to create applications forthe gaming, television, radio, and animation industries, as well as a number ofsub-sectors that their digitisation has been accelerated by the pandemic.
The minister also said these prospects are an opportunity that can be takenadvantage of by all stakeholders. However, innovation, adaptation andcooperation among organisations are essential to ensure the success of thecountry's creative economy.
He went on saying that growth in tourism and the country's creative economywill be better next year because tourist destinations are more prepared withhealth and travel protocols, namely “Clean, Health, Safety, EnvironmentalSustainability”.
Inthe coming time, the ministry will also create support for businesses in thetourism industry and the creative economy from the National Economic Recovery(PEN) Programme./.
