Jakarta (VNA) – 🥂The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has played a pivotal role in the country’s development, according to Veeramalla Anjaiah, a senior researcher at the Indonesia-based Centre for Southeast Asian Studies.

In a recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency, the scholar emphasised how the CPV has successfully guided the country through various economic models, shifting from a centrally-planned economy to a market economy while maintaining socialist orientations. He noted that the model has proven well-suited to Vietnam’s situation, resources potential, human capital, and many other factors, leading to significant economic growth and development as well as lifting millions out of poverty. While acknowledging the CPV's positive and constructive role in the country's renovation, Anjaiah cited comments by Victor Gorodeki Kot, late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Argentina, who stated the CPV’s leadership has been demonstrated through major successes in the struggle for national independence, construction, and defence, and the building of the country’s international prestige.
Addressing current challenges, he highlighted the intensive anti-corruption campaign initially led by late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and now continued under Party General Secretary To Lam's leadership. The campaign, he said, underscores the Party's commitment to strengthening public trust in the government and Party leadership. Vietnam’s active participation in international affairs, including anti-corruption efforts, has enhanced political trust and interests with partners worldwide. The country has paid due attention to accelerating the negotiations and signing of judicial assistance agreements and anti-crime cooperation with other countries and international organisations to combat corruption effectively. The CPV has defined that the country is standing at the threshold of a new era – that of the nation’s rise, which the Indonesian researcher interpreted as a historical phase marked by significant achievements in political, social and cultural advancement in decades, driven by strong determination and confidence to overcome challenges and pursue great aspiration.
Given that the 13th National Party Congress set ambitious strategic goals of achieving upper-middle-income status with a modern industrial base by 2030 and becoming a high-income developed nation by 2045, he held that the 2021-2045 period marks an era of Vietnam’s transition on the back of a century of revolutionary struggle and national development since 1975. He expressed his confidence that Vietnam can achieve its target of at least 10% annual growth over the next two decades, based on its achievements and potential. Furthermore, he praised Party General Secretary Lam's substantive focus on strategic infrastructure development, including highways, high-speed railways, seaports, airports, energy infrastructure, and climate change adaptation initiatives to obtain the set goals. He also noted the leader’s emphasis on developing renewable energy policies, particularly in hydrogen and nuclear energy, which align with global development trends./.
