Indonesia wants to promote equal economic relations with Germany

Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has emphasised the need to promote equal economic relations between the Southeast Asian country and Germany as well as the European Union during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’sPresident Joko Widodo has emphasised the need to promote equal economicrelations between the Southeast Asian country and Germany as well as the EuropeanUnion during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

She went on to say thatthe President also sought Germany's support for the conclusion of theIndonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement negotiation.

The bilateral meeting took place at the LowerSaxony Guesthouse in Hannover, Germany, on April 16 (local time), Retno, said, addingthat Minister-President of Lower Saxony state Stephan Weil also attended theevent.

During the meeting, Widodo welcomed thecollaboration in the Indonesia-Germany joint committee on economy andinvestment and that Germany's investment in Indonesia should focus on prioritysectors, such as export-oriented sector as well as renewable energy anddownstreaming, the foreign minister said.

The Indonesia’s head of state also highlighted theimportance of German investment and technology transfer during his meetingwith Scholz, she added.

Several agreements on government-to-government(G-to-G) and business-to-business (B-to-B) cooperation have been signed during the visit.

For the G-to-G cooperation, the minister said thatthe Indonesian and German authorities signed two agreements, including the "Joint Declaration of Intent of the Joint Economic and InvestmentCommittee" on the establishment of a joint forum on economy and investment, and the "JointDeclaration of Intent in The Feed of Digitalisation" between Indonesia'sMinistry of Communication and Informatics and the German Federal Ministry forDigital and Transport, she stated.

😼 According to the diplomat, enterprises of the twocountries also inked 18 agreements in the areas of sustainable development and energy transition,investment, start-up and innovation, valued at 27.9 trillion Rp (1.88 billionUSD)./.
