Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia has freshly signed the UnitedNations of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)’s international code for theprotection of tourists.
The code is a collective commitment from UNWTO members to ensure the protectionof tourists visiting a destination. It also encourages tourists to follow andrespect customs that apply in the destinations that they visit, Indonesia’s national news agency Antara quoted Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno as saying in a statement issued last week.
Under the freshly signed agreement, the minister alsoinvited UNWTO to participate in several forms of cooperation in the effort toimprove the quality of tourism in Indonesia.
This joint work involves the creation of knowledge-sharingactivities between experts or destination managers concerning theimplementation of sustainable tourism and methods to handle potential issues. Italso includes training and capacity improvement for professionals withtrainings involving tourism marketing and conference on tourism marketing.
Uno expects that the cooperation will help bolster thequality of the Indonesian tourism sector that can lead to economic revival andcreation of jobs and business opportunities.
The international code was adopted by UNWTO's General Assembly in its 24th session in Madrid, Spain, in 2021./.
