Jakarta (VNA) - Digital transformation andsustainability are important factors for achieving the 2025 ASEAN EconomicCommunity (AEC) blueprint target, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for EconomicAffairs Airlangga Hartarto said while chairing the online 20th ASEAN EconomicCommunity Council (AECC) on October 18.

He said he fully supported the sustainable attempt forimproving the digital skills of the region’s micro, small, and mediumenterprises (MSMEs) through various initiatives, for instance, the ASEAN SMEAcademy, Go Digital ASEAN, ASEAN Access, and the integration of MSMEs into theglobal value chain.

In supporting the regional digital transformation agenda, the minister highlighted five strategies that need to be carried out by the governments ofeach member country.

They include issuing inclusive, coherent, and holisticregulations which support innovation and digital economy development; developingtelecommunications infrastructure and ensure affordable internet access; and strengtheningcollaboration with the private sector in policy-making.

Meanwhile, on sustainable priority issues, Indonesia iscommitted to implementing the circular economy scheme to run a sustainableeconomy and create a lot of green job opportunities, which in line with itsnational policy of reducing food waste by 50 percent and textile waste by 14percent, the official stated./.
