Jakarta (VNA) - Ind🐽onesia and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) have jointly launched an agriculture revitalisation programme to create youth-driv𒉰en agricultural innovation for national food security in the country.

The programme seeks to address one of Indonesia's biggest challenges by engaging and empowering young people to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural sector within the Southeast Asian nation. According to data by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), over 80% of Indonesian farmers are 40 years of age or older, raising concerns about the sector's future viability.
Currently, approximately 135 million people or over 30% of Indonesia's population are working in the agriculture field. However, nearly 50% of the unemployed demographic falls within the age bracket of 15 to 29 years.
Therefore, the programme focuses on attracting youthful talents to the agricultural domain through innovative farming systems and contemporary approaches. By developing specialised agricultural education curricula, this programme is expected to enhance skills and knowledge through innovative solutions, digital tools, and adaptive techniques. The programme will establish specialised training centres and networking hubs for the next generation of Indonesian farmers, equipping them with the requisite information, networks, and resources for their development./.
