Indonesia and India signed a number of cooperation agreements on November 2 to boost bilateral relations during the working visit by Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari to the Southeast Asian nation. The two sides agreed to collaborate in various fields, including new and renewable energy, cultural exchanges programmes from 2015-2018 and criminal extradition.
The bilateral energy cooperation agreement in particular will help India and Indonesia realise their commitments to reducing carbon emission by 35 percent and 29 percent, respectively, in 2030, Vice President Ansari said during earlier talks with his Indonesian counterpart Jusuf Kalla.
The host and guest also discussed measures to intensify affiliation across fields, especially in navigation security, defence and counter-terrorism via the two nations’ existing cooperation mechanisms. They touched upon regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly navigation freedom and security in the East Sea.-VNA
