Indonesia gets new finance minister

The new Finance Minister stressed that achieving 8% economic growth is not impossible, pledging to encourage both the private and public sectors to play a greater role in driving the economy.

Hanoi (VNA) –🍨 Indonesia carried out a cabinet reshuffle on September 8, during which Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati was dismissed and Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa was appointed to replace her.

Purbaya has headed the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation since 2020. Before that, he held various posts in several ministries, including deputy minister at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment. He also served as chief executive of state-owned brokerage Danareksa Securities.
Speaking to the press after taking office, Purbaya stressed that achieving 8% economic growth is not impossible. He pledged to encourage both the private and public sectors to play a greater role in driving the economy. The reshuffle by President Prabowo Subianto came two weeks after nationwide protests and unrest demanding tax reforms to ensure greater fairness./.
