Indonesia has been elected to the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) during the 42nd session of the FAO Conference held from June 14-18.

Jakarta (VNA)– Indonesia has been elected to the Council of the Food and AgricultureOrganisation (FAO) during the 42nd session of the FAO Conference held from June14-18.
Indonesia is therepresentative of the Asian regional group along with five other Asiancountries of Bangladesh, China, Japan, the Philippines and the Republic ofKorea for the 2021-24 period.
Speaking at a pressconference on June 21, Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limposaid the election is a form of international recognition of the growth ofIndonesia's agricultural sector.
He noted that theagricultural sector development programme, under the direction of President JokoWidodo, continues to produce positive results for economic development.
The programme is hopedto colour the world's agricultural policies and inspire other countries, andIndonesia may play a role in providing food for the world community, Limpo said.
Through membership inthe Council, the country can contribute to the formulation of various FAOpolicies that support the efforts of UN member states to achieve sustainabledevelopment goals, among others./.
