Indonesia accepts international help to fight fires that are cloaking Southeast Asia in haze, said an Indonesian official. The country will cooperate with a number of nations, including Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Russia and Singapore to suppress forest fires, said foreign ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir, adding that it asked Singapore for help on October 8.
Spokesman of Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the six nations will join the domestic forces in ground and air campaigns to effectively extinguish the blazes.
International help will include aircraft and advanced devices to put off the blazes with water-bombing on southern Sumatra island. The country has deployed about 22,000 personnel and 26 helicopters to carry out water-bombing and four special aircraft to make artificial rain to fight the brazes.-VNA
