Hundreds of households face high risks of landslide in Dien Bien

The northern mountainous province of Dien Bien has around 660 households living in areas vulnerable to landslides and flash floods, according to statistics of localities in the province.

Dien Bien (VNA) – The northern mountainous province of DienBien has around 660 households living in areas vulnerable to landslides andflash floods, according to statistics of localities in the province.

With many high mountains and streams, landslides and flash floods are aconstant threat to local residents, especially those living at the foot ofmountains and along streams and rivers.

The province has 59 communes in areas with especially high risk oflandslide, while 33 others face high risks and 20 with risks at medium to low levels.

Those communes are located in Dien Bien, Dien Bien Dong, Muong Cha,Muong Nhe and Nam Po districts, and Muong Lay town.

The provincial authorities have been carrying out several projects torelocate residents from high-risk areas, but most of them are facingdifficulties in financial resources.

Dien Bien is allocated 2 billion VND for relocating 100 households inparticularly dangerous areas, but as of the end of 2018, only 47 households hadbeen moved to safe area.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment ওefforts♎

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
