Hanoi (VNA) – The Hue Traditional CraftFestival 2019 will take place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue fromApril 26 to May 2.
The information was revealed at a pressconference in Hanoi on April 5.
Themed “The quintessence of Vietnamesetraditional crafts”, the festival will gather excellent artists from craftvillages of Thua Thien-Hue and other localities.
The event will feature 16 groups of craft,including embroidery, jewellery, wooden crafts, copper items, pottery, conical leafhats, confetti, calligraphy, painting, kite-making, garment-textiles, and bambooand rattan products.
Sixty-two craft villages and vocationalestablishments with 350 artisans from across the country are expected toparticipate in the festival, as well as 17 international delegations and 11foreign cities and organisations such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, China,Brazil, and Turkey.
Besides previous activities such as an ao dai (Vietnamesetraditional long dress) festival, a food festival and the Hue international hotair balloon festival, there will also be new attractions such as a flowerfestival, arts programme and performances by Korean singers.
The organising board will arrange manybeautifully decorated spaces to honour artisans and craft villages, especiallythose working with lotus, silk, brocade and the ao dai.
Each space will not only tell a story about thetraditional craft, but also introduce craft products imbued with Vietnamesetradition and international integration.
In addition, the organising board will alsoarrange a pedestrian space along the scenic Huong River.
Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue cityNguyen Van Thanh, head of the organising board, said the festival aims tohonour craft villages and artisans who made active contributions to Vietnamesetraditional craft.
He stressed that it is not only a cultural andtourism event, but also an economic and political one that brings benefits toartisans and craft villages. –VNA
