Hon Tre Island connected to national power grid

Hon Tre island – the administrative centre of Kien Hai district, the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang was officially connected to the national power grid on February 11.

The sea-crossing powerproject has a total cost of 78 billion (around 3.66 million USD). Itincludes the construction of a 12.9-km long 22kV transmission line, 27poles with a height between 43-48 metres above the sea level. The lineruns from Tho Son commune in the mainland district of Hon Dat.

Additionally,a power network on Hon Tre island with 6.2 km of a 22kV transmissionline, 2.8km of a transmission line and 10 transformer stations with atotal capacity of 1,275kVA were constructed as part of the project.

About30km west of Kien Giang’s city of Rach Gia, Hon Tre island covers anarea of 428.59 ha. Along with Phu Quoc, Kien Hai is an island districtwith great potential for developing sea-based economy, services, tourismand maritime transport.

The power project to Hon Tre island commune is expected to help Kien Hai create new impetus in its socio-economic development.-VNA
