At the function, delegates stressed the historical significance of Giron Victory57 years ago, when more than 1,500 US-trained mercenary troops landed at Gironbeach as part of a scheme to overthrow the fledgling Cuban government. Underthe direct command of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the invasion was defeatedon April 19, 1961 after less than 72 hours.

The Giron Victory marked a decisive turning point that advanced Cuba to a pathof socialism building, they said.

Cuban Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Indira Lopez Arguelles shared that thevictory was not only significant for the struggle for national independence ofthe Cuban people but also a great encouragement for national liberationmovements throughout the world, including in Vietnam.
