HCM City launches month for humanitarian activities
Ho Chi Minh City’s Red Cross Society on May 12 launched the 2019 Month for Humanitarian Activities on the occasion of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8).

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City’s Red Cross Society on May 12launched the 2019 Month for Humanitarian Activities on the occasion of the WorldRed Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8).
Tran Truong Son, presidentof the society, said that the month is held to call for all organisations andindividuals to contribute to humanitarian activities so as to assist vulnerablegroups in the city and surrounding localities.
Humanitarian activitiesimplemented throughout the month include promoting blood donation; buildinghouses for the poor, roads and bridges in rural areas, and offering free healthcheck-ups and treatment for residents in far-flung areas.
The city expects tocollect 91,000 blood bags and mobilize over 50 billion VND (2.1 million USD)from organisations, enterprises and individuals for humanitarianactivities.-VNA
The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS)’s chapter in Hanoi will strive to provide support for 7,000-10,000 disadvantaged people under the 2019 Humanitarian Month which was launched in the capital city on May 5.
The central province of Thanh Hoa launched a Humanitarian Month on May 7 with many activities designed to support vulnerable groups on the occasion of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8).
The 2019 Month for Humanitarian Activities was launched in Hanoi on May 11, and this is also the first time this programme has been held at the national scale.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
UNICEF stands ready to support the Government in implementing this important law and in continuing to invest in teachers as the cornerstone of a resilient, inclusive, and high-quality education system for all children.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach.
