HCM City (VNA) – Authorised forces in HoChi Minh City on June 27 discovered and seized about 12.5 kilogrammes of methamphetaminehidden in eight parcels sent to Vietnam from some European countries via expressmail service (EMS).
Officers of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, the Anti-SmugglingInvestigation Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs, theDrug Crime Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security andrelevant agencies checked the parcels after finding suspicion.
The drugs, scientifically known as MDMA, were placed inside electronic loudspeakers, cardboard boxes and toy boxes.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, the senders stated fakeaddresses in the part of the recipients. Even if the real addresses were real,they were apartment blocks with hundreds houses or coffee shops. With thistrick, the smugglers will be able to deny their involvement when authorisedagencies discover.
The case is being further investigated.
Earlier in late 2017, the city’s Customs Department seized around 1.4kilogrammes of drugs in four cases.
On June 13, a parcel with methamphetamine inside transported from theNetherlands to Vietnam was discovered.
On April 20, the agencies also seized about 9.35 kilogrammes of methamphetaminewhen checking a parcel from Belgium to Vietnam via EMS. It was the largestamount of drugs smuggled into Hanoi by this service.-VNA
