HCM City: 87.9 percent of households get clean water
The Sai Gon Water Corporation (SAWACO) increased the number of households in Ho Chi Minh City with access to clean water to 1.6 million by the end of last year, equivalent to 87.9 percent.
Hanoi (VNA) – The Sai Gon Water Corporation (SAWACO) increased theܫ number of households in Ho Chi Minh City with access to 🐼clean water to 1.6 million by the end of last year, equivalent to 87.9 percent.
The figure was up by over 5 percent in comparison with 2014, reported Quan Doi Nhan Dan newspaper.
Last year, SAWACO produced about 586 million cubic metres of water, nearly 3 percent more than in 2014, supplying an average of 1.6 million cubic metres per day.
The company plans to cut water losses to 29 percent and increase its supply to 2.4 million cubic metres per day.-VNA
The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will provide a non refundable aid worth over 593,000 USD to Ho Chi Minh City to help upgrade and manage its water supply system.
With a water loss rate of 34 percent, Ho Chi Minh City loses nearly 500,000 cubic meters among the total volume of 1.65 million cubic meters of water supplied each day by Saigon Water Corporation (Sawaco), Saigon Times Daily reports.
Ho Chi Minh City water supplier Sawaco will need investment capital of more than 4.5 trillion VND (215million USD) to build water pipelines to ensure that all city residents have access to tap water this year.
HCM City plans to cope with the 2015-16 dry season as well as the effects of El Nino by transforming crop and breeding models and rotating the release of water from the Dau Tieng reservoir.
The El Nino phenomenon in 2016 will cause freshwater shortage in Ho Chi Minh City and other southern areas, the National Hydro-Meteorological Service has said.
