Hanoi vows to facilitate construction of Samsung R&D centre

Hanoi will create optimal conditions for the licensing and construction of a new research and development (R&D) centre of Samsung Vietnam, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has said.

Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi will create optimal conditions for the licensing and constructionof a new research and development (R&D) centre of Samsung Vietnam, Chairmanof the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has said.

Chung made the pledgewhile receiving General Director of Samsung Vietnam Choi Joo-ho in Hanoi onApril 23.

He noted thatthe municipal authorities have granted licence and completed procedures for theproject in the 2015-2016 period. The city also agreed with Samsung Vietnam’sproposal to build the new R&D centre at a new location, Chung said.

The chairmanvoiced his hope that Samsung will accelerate the project to promptly start theconstruction of the R&D centre.

For his part,Choi Joo-ho said after a delay, the project to build the R&D centre hasbeen resumed.

The centre willcover an area of about 11,600 sq.m. in Hanoi’s Tay Ho Tay (West Lake) urban area,which is expected to become a world-class R&D centre.

Choi said itwill be the sole centre specialising in mobile phones and network devices, andexpected to take the lead in Samsung’s 5G technology development, contributingto the building of smart factories in Vietnam in the future.

The centre will alsostrengthen the position of Vietnam as Samsung’s strategic hub in the region,and serve as a headquarters of Samsung in Vietnam, he stressed.

Samsung currentlyboasts six factories in Vietnam, along with a research centre in Hanoi. In2018, Samsung Vietnam posted export revenues of 60 billion USD, accounting for25 percent of Vietnam’s total export value.-VNA
