Hanoi (VNA) – The Asia Pacific Domain Name System Forum (APAC DNS Forum) 2025, themed “An Inclusive Internet: Connecting People, Empowering our Future,” opened in Hanoi on May 8.

The forum is a meaningful platform for the regional DNS community to network, exchange ideas, and explore collaboration opportunities concerning the domain name industry. It enables regional DNS industry experts and the wider community to come together to discuss the latest developments, opportunities, and challenges in the domain name marketplace.

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong said that the Politburo's Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, dated December 22, 2024, on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation, outlines the goal for Vietnam to become a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income status by 2030, and a developed, high-income nation by 2045. A key focus of this roadmap is the development of digital infrastructure as a foundation for digital transformation. Among that infrastructure, the Internet, particularly the DNS server infrastructure, is an essential component.

Therefore, ensuring the secure and reliable management of the national DNS system and promoting the widespread adoption of the national domain “.vn” are critical tasks in advancing Vietnam’s digital economy and digital society.

According to the official, the Internet has entered a new phase—characterised by the Internet of Things (IoT), Quantum Internet, and emerging technologies such as 5G/6G, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain. While many new forms of connectivity and digital services are emerging, Internet resources, domain names, and the DNS system continue to serve as the foundational identity layer, marking the starting point of all digital connections and playing an essential role in ensuring trust and safety in cyberspace.

Vietnam is committed to working alongside the international community to develop an open, secure, and inclusive Internet, and to cooperating extensively with partners in the region and the world in building a digital future for all, added Phuong.

Key topics at the two-day forum revolve around the application of solutions for the development of domain names, especially country code top-level domain, to help affirm the online presence of organisations and businesses in cyberspace.

Additionally, the forum focuses on strategies for the development and secure, reliable management of DNS systems - the heart of the Internet - along with the application of technologies such as AI and blockchain to ensure the safety and security of DNS operations and the domain space, protecting users in the digital environment. The development of multilingual domain names, which allow the use of unique languages and characters from each country, is also discussed, making the Internet more accessible to hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

💧 After more than 27 years of global connection, Vietnam's Internet has made remarkable progress. Vietnam has always been at the forefront of transitioning the Internet to the new generation IPv6, with the IPv6 adoption rate reaching 65.5%, ranking 7th globally. In 2024, it celebrated the 30th anniversary of its national domain “.vn,” which officially represents national sovereignty in cyberspace. The number of ".vn" domain names has reached 650,000, ranking 2nd in ASEAN, 10th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 40th globally, up six places compared to 2020./.
