Hanoi ceremony marks Cuba’s Giron victory

OnApril 19, 1961, responding to the call of Commander in Chief FidelCastro, the Cuban people defeated more than 1,500 US-trained troops wholanded at Playa Giron (better known as the Bay of Pigs), as part of ascheme to overthrow the fledgling Cuban government after less than 72hours in office.

Speaking at the ceremony,VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien stressed that the victory was notonly significant for the struggle for national liberation andsovereignty of Cuba and Latin America more broadly, but also served as amajor encouragement for national liberation movements around the world,including Vietnam.

He also praised the solidarityand cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba over the past decades andthanked the Cuban people for supporting Vietnam’s struggle for nationalindependence and reunification.

Cuban Ambassador toVietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz mentioned the celebration of the 55 thanniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties at the end of this year,affirming that the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of Solidarity withCuba to be held in Hanoi later this year will be a vivid manifestationof the special relations.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
