Hai Phong (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang had aworking session with the Standing Board of the Hai Phong municipal PartyCommittee on January 18, recognising the northern city’s significant achievementsin 2016.

Hai Phong fulfilled 19 of the 20 keysocio-economic targets with many beyond expectations such as a GDP growth rateof 11 percent, a 17.02-percent rise in the industrial production index, and an8.7-percent increase in the State budget collection.

An improving investment and business environmenthas helped promote domestic and foreign investment, he said, citing that morethan 2.75 billion USD of FDI was poured into the city last year, 45 percenthigherthan the set target.

President Quang agreed on the directions andtasks Hai Phong has set for 2017, asking municipal authorities to continueimproving the local investment climate and stepping up investment attractionactivities to win projects with high technology and clean energy.

Infrastructure, especially transport facilities,needs to be perfected while tourism projects must be implemented as soon aspossible.

As a strongly developing city, Hai Phong shouldpay heed to state management of planning, he said, noting that a rational andclear planning plays a vital role in turning Hai Phong into a smart city.

At the session, the leader applauded themunicipal authorities’ attention to ensuring a happy Lunar New Year for localresidents, particularly disadvantaged families and war invalids. He askedHai Phong to increase survey activities to ensure all policy beneficiaries are cared for.-VNA
