Ha Tinh to complete marine environment incident compensation in June

Ha Tinh (VNA) - The central province ofHa Tinh is working to complete the compensation for units and individualsaffected by the marine environment incident before June 30.

So far, Ha Tinh authorities have allocated tolocal administrations more than 1,464 billion VND (64.5 million USD) out of thetotal 1,600 billion VND for compensation. Over 1,312 billion VND (57.7million USD) of the sum was disbursed.

As of June 26, 878 people are still under reviewfor compensation, mostly in Nghi Xuan, Thanh Ha, Loc Ha, Ky Anh districts andKy Anh town.

More than 260,000 people who earned their livingfrom the sea in the four central coastal provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh,Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue were affected by a marine environment incidentthat caused mass fish deaths in April last year.

In late June 2016, Taiwanese-invested HungNghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Limited Company admitted responsibility for theincident and pledged 11.5 trillion VND (500 million USD) in compensation.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
