Green urban construction booms in Vietnam

Vihajco hopes to build the firstecological city in the country by pouring its investment into Eco-Parkurban area in the northern province of Hung Yen, 13km from the capitalcity of Hanoi .

Covering 500 ha in Phung Cong commune, Van Giang district, 22 percentof the Eco Park area will be set aside for trees and water surface withthe aim of creating an ideal environment for human development and acivilised life.

Additionally, a series of green urban projects are being implementednationwide. The Phoenix Garden, which is designed by a Frencharchitect and invested by the DIA Development and Investment Ltd. Co.in Dan Phuong district of Hanoi, will become a modern urban area withlarge eco-friendly villas.

Meanwhile, the Trung Nam Group poured nearly 1.7 billion USD intobuilding the Quan Nam – Thuy Tu green urban area in central coast cityof Da Nang. The project will include hotels and entertainment sites aswell as public facilities such as kindergartens, schools, markets,hospitals, trade and services offices and as well as ample greenery.

Green urban planning has become the focus of recent real estate forums.“Building ecological urban areas is necessary to minimise urbandegradation in the modernisation and urbanisation process,” said realestate development experts at a recent seminar in Hanoi .

However, other experts pointed out obstacles that still stand in theway of this trend, such as the lack of a uniform set of standards forsuch green urban areas and high investment costs.

Deputy Head of the Construction Ministry’s Urban Development DepartmentNguyen Thi Hanh emphasised the necessity of careful planning for thegreen development and for maintenance and upgrade of newly-builtecological urban areas./.
