Free bus travel offered to HCM City seniors

The Ho Chi Minh City Centre for Public Transport Management has announced that it will begin offering free bus rides to senior citizens.
The Ho Chi Minh City Centre for Public Transport Management hasannounced that it will begin offering free bus rides to senior citizens.

The free rides will be available to senior citizens 80 yearsand older through 2015, and beginning in 2016, bus rides will also befree for those 75 years or older.

The elderly will also haveprioritised seating at the front of buses, and will receive assistancefrom bus drivers and conductors.

The free rides are called forin the national target plan for the welfare of elderly people living inHCM City during the 2014-20 period.

Previously, themunicipal People's Committee had implemented free bus programmes fordisabled riders and children under 12 years old.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
