Vientaine (VNA) – Sisavath Keobounphanh, one of Laos’ first generals, passed away at 7:09 am on May 12 at the age of 92.
GeneralSisavath Keobounphanh served as a member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committeefrom the 1st to 8th tenures,Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee for the 3rd and 4th terms, and amember of the Politburo during the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th tenures, the LPRP Central Committee said in an announcement onMay 12 evening.
He wasalso Minister of Agriculture andForestry and Minister ofInterior before serving as Vice President of Laos from 1996 – 1998 and PrimeMinister from 1998 – 2001, it said.
A statefuneral will be held for the late general from now until May 16./.
