Foreign researchers join workshop on Vietnam in Mexico

Mexico City (VNA) – The socio-economic andpolitical situation, and gender equality issue in Vietnam drew the attention ofresearchers, teachers and students at a workshop in Mexico on September 5.

The event, held by the Institute for Economic Research underthe National Autonomous University of Mexico, saw the participation of researchersand experts from Japan and Poland.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong talkedabout the relations between Vietnamand Mexico,as well as potential for bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularlyeconomy, trade, investment and culture.

Since the two countries set up diplomatic ties on May 19,1975, their collaboration and traditional friendship have been consolidated andenhanced across realms, he said, highlighting an annual increase of 10-15percent in two-way trade over the past time.

Vietnamhas become Mexico’seighth largest trade partner in Asia-Pacific. Meanwhile, Mexico is Vietnam’ssecond largest trade partner in Latin America, with two-way trade valuereaching nearly 5 billion USD in 2017 and some 1 billion USD in the firstquarter of this year, the diplomat cited statistics released by the Mexican Ministryof Economy. 

Ambassador Duong expressed his belief that the Comprehensiveand Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to which bothVietnam and Mexico are signatories will further facilitate economic, trade andinvestment links between the two countries once it takes effect.

At the workshop, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Minh from the VietnamAcademy of Social Sciences presented Vietnam’s policies and progressesin gender equality and women empowerment in political, economic and social spectrums.

Dr. Naoko Saito from Japan’s Osaka University and LukaszCzarnecki, a Polish researcher, spoke of the impressive development andincreasingly important role of Vietnam in the region and the international areaat large.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico openedexhibitions of Mexican artists’ paintings and photos capturing the land andpeople of Vietnam.-VNA
