Foreign NGOs vow more support to friendship organisations’ union

Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign non-governmentalorganisations (NGOs) will continue to work with the Vietnam Union of FriendshipOrganisations (VUFO) to assist disadvantaged localities and share the country’sall-round successes.

The remark was made by Marko Lovrekovic,Co-Director of the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre, at a gathering held in Hanoi onJanuary 18 by the VUFO and the Committee for Foreign Non-GovernmentalOrganisation Affairs (COMINGO).

Representing foreign NGOs, he pledged they willwork more closely with the People’s Aid Coordinating Committee of the COMINGOand the VUFO to overcome challenges, adapt to global changes and strive for aVietnam with sustainable development.

The foreign organisations always welcome newinitiatives to improve VUFO’s NGO-related work such as the establishment of theVietnam Institute for International and Public Diplomacy Studies in July 2016,he added.

At the gathering, VUFO Vice Chairman andSecretary General Don Tuan Phong said last year, the Vietnamese people receivedeffective assistance and cooperation from the international community,including foreign NGOs.

Foreign NGOs continued to support the countrywith more than 300 million USD in 2016, thus helping with local povertyreduction, socio-economic development, environmental protection, climate changeprevention and war consequences settlement.

On behalf of the VUFO and the COMINGO, Phongthanked the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front for their attention, andministries, sectors, mass organisations and localities for coordination andsupport of the NGOs’ works. He also acknowledged the friendship and cooperationthat international organisations and foreign NGOs have given to the VUFO.

He said he believes the VUFO and the COMINGOwill receive more support and collaboration from partners, particularly foreignNGOs.-VNA
