A 22.6m flagpole was inaugurated at the Tran outpost island in Co To district, northern Quang Ninh province on August 22.
The construction of the flagpole started in March 2015 at a cost of nearly 2 billion VND (about 88,000 USD), of which 1.3 billion VND was funded by the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and the remainder was raised by the Quang Ninh provincial youth union. It is one of the seven flagpoles that the youth organisations have been building at the national outpost islands, namely Bach Long Vy (northern port city of Hai Phong), Cu Lao Xanh (central Binh Dinh province), Phu Quy (central Binh Thuan province), Con Son (southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province), Tho Chu (southern Kien Giang province), and Hon Lao (central Quang Binh province). The programme is jointly carried out by the Ho chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Vietnamese Students’ Association, and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam with an aim of raising sense of responsibility among the youths for safeguarding the national seas and islands sovereignty.-VNA
