The Ministry of Labour has revealed that the first group of migrant workers under the MoU on Labor Employment with neighbouring nations will arrive in Thailand on February 1, 2022.
Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Ministry of Labour has revealed that the first groupof migrant workers under the MoU on Labor Employment with neighbouring nationswill arrive in Thailand on February 1, 2022.
LabourMinister Mr. Suchart Chomklin stated that the ministry, at the instruction ofPrime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister General PrawitWongsuwon, has prepared for the employment of Myanmar, Lao and Cambodianworkers secured under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the respectivecountries in order to resolve the labor shortage after the reopening of thecountry.
SinceDecember 1, 2021, the ministry has opened channels for business operators toapply to recruit migrant workers, with employers who are able to pay forwork-permit fees and quarantine expenses for their workers registering for theprocess.
Recently,applications have been submitted for the recruitment of a total of 226Cambodian workers to work in Chonburi and Ayutthaya province. The group isexpected to enter the country via Sa Kaew province on February 1 and willquarantine in state-certified facilities in the province. These workers will bequarantined for 7 days since they are fully vaccinated and have healthinsurance that includes Covid-19 treatments before being picked up by theiremployers and taken to their workplaces.
Regardingapplications for recruitment of workers from the other two countries, theLabour Minister stated that officials are waiting for the other side’s processto be completed before allowing workers to enter the country, following thesame routine as with Cambodian workers./.
Thailand is considering to allow migrant workers whose employment expires starting next month to remain in the country instead of having to return to their home countries to re-apply for employment from there.
