Film on late party leader to run

A documentary about late Party General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh (1915-1998), who made invaluable contributions to Vietnamese revolutionary efforts and economic reform, will be aired on Vietnam Television to celebrate his 100th birth anniversary on July 1.

The40-minute documentary tells the story of the leader's revolutionarycareer, with a focus on his imprisonment in Con Dao Jail by the US, hisfive-time appointment as the general secretary of the HCM City's PartyCommittee and his contributions to the first period of the country's doimoi (renewal) process beginning in 1991.

Director Pham Hong Dang's documentary team spent a lot of time gathering materials from the Party's agencies and Linh's family.

Interviewswith late Minister of Home Affairs Mai Chi Tho, late Prime Minister VoVan Kiet, Linh's wife Ngo Thi Hue and Linh himself when he was alivewere scattered throughout the documentary.

Nguyen Van Linh wasthe General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam from 1986 to1991. He was elected at the 6th National Party Congress in December 1986and became the first Party leader to lead and organise theimplementation of the Party resolution on Doi Moi.

He initiatedand pursued the principles of Doi Moi while maintaining socialistorientations, promoting Party leadership and bringing into full play thepeople’s right to mastery as reflected in the motto “people know,people discuss, people do and people inspect.”

Nguyen Van Linh,who passed away on April 28, 1998, was praised by both the Party and thepeople as a staunch and prestigious communist and an outstandingdisciple of the late President Ho Chi Minh.-VNA
