Female scientists from the Asia-Pacific to gather at Hanoi meeting
The eighth annual meeting of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists-Asia and Pacific Nation Network (INWES-APNN) will take place in Hanoi on October 18-20.
Hanoi (VNA) – The eighth annual meeting of the InternationalNetwork of Women Engineers and Scientists-Asia and Pacific Nation Network(INWES-APNN) will take place in Hanoi on October 18-20.
The event will be jointlyheld by the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Vietnam Association for IntellectualWomen (VAIW), gathering 180 Vietnamese women and 85 female delegates from othercountries in the Asian-Pacific region, VAIW Vice President Nguyen Thi Hoiannounced at a press conference on October 15.
During the three-day meeting,participants are expected to take part in discussions on gender and genderequality in science and technology, food safety and nutrition, and naturaldisaster risk management and climate change adaptation.
A Hanoi Declaration will beadopted on October 19, outlining the commitments of APNN members towardsstrengthening cooperation and coordination, as well as sharing experiencebetween female scientists and engineers in the region to further contribute tothe growth of the region, the world, and the implementation of the UnitedNations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs), Hoi stated.
“The declaration willacknowledge the importance of female scientists in sustainable growth and the developmentof economies during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as the necessityto narrow the gender gap in science and technology,” she added.
Established in 2011, INWES isa global network of organisations for women in science, technology, engineering,and mathematics (STEM), reaching over 60 countries worldwide with 250,000members, and a UNESCO partner. Along with APNN, INWES includes INWES-Europe andINWES-Africa.–VNA
