Fatherland Front aids disadvantaged residents in Hau Giang

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hau Giang province on August 4 presented houses for poor families and scholarships for students with disadvantaged background to help them overcome difficulties.

Hau Giang (VNA) –The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hau Giang province on August 4 presentedhouses for poor families and scholarships for students with disadvantagedbackground to help them overcome difficulties.

At the hand-over ceremonies in Phuong Binhcommune of Phung Hiep district and Thanh Xuan commune of Chau Thanh A district,President of the VFF Central Committee Tran Thanh Man asked authorities of HauGiang to assist disadvantaged families and low-income earners with houses andcapital for production and business activities, better care for public health,and keep security and order in rural areas.

He also noted that investing ineducation-training means investing in development, so the province needs to paymore attention to education-training. Additionally, to build new-style ruralareas, it is also necessary to improve health care, ensure security and order,and develop production and business activities, Man said.

In Phuong Binh commune, the official presentedgifts and one million VND in cash to each of 20 families which have been helpedto build new houses, along with bicycles and 500,000 VND each to 25 disadvantagedstudents.

In Thanh Xuan commune, scholarships each worth 3million VND were granted to 10 students with high academic results while 25others received bicycles as support for them on the way to school. Fivelow-income families which were assisted to build houses also received financialaid at the ceremony.

On this occasion the VFF President presented 200million VND (nearly 8,600 USD) financed by the central Fund for the Poor to HauGiang to help with the construction of houses for the disadvantaged.

There are about 19,500 poor and 11,800 near-poorhouseholds in the Mekong Delta province at present. 

In the first half of 2018, the provincial VFFCommittee helped build 169 houses worth over 6.4 billion VND (274,700 USD) forthe poor and hundreds of social facilities worth more than 70 billion VND (3million USD). It also supported over 5,520 households to escape from poverty.–VNA
